This special issue is open to novel research articles that explore the evolving connection between Operations Research (OR) and artificial intelligence (AI), highlighting fundamental concepts and innovative trends that influence decision-making in today's complex world.

This special issue welcomes submissions from researchers, practitioners, and scholars exploring the multifaceted relationship between OR and AI. However, we would like to encourage, in particular, the participants of the 2024 International Conference of the African Federation of Operational Research Societies (AFROS 2024) https://afrosocieties.org/ , that will be held in Tlemcen, Algeria from 3 to 5 November 2024, to submit extended versions of their papers presented in the conference.

High quality research papers are solicited to address theoretical as well as practical issues of the complexities and opportunities at the intersection of Operations Research and Artificial Intelligence. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Integration of OR and AI approaches
  • Reinforcement/Machine Learning for Combinatorial Optimization
  • Evolutionary Reinforcement Learning
  • Smart Decision support systems
  • Optimization in AI-driven decision-aid tools
  • Advances in optimization algorithms inspired by AI techniques
  • Hybrid approaches combining traditional OR methods with Machine Learning
  • Theoretical foundations of decision-making in the context of AI
  • New methodologies for solving complex optimization problems using AI
  • Robust optimization models incorporating uncertainty in AI-based decision- making

Examples of applications:

Scheduling, Logistics, Healthcare, Telecommunication, Logistics, , Finance, Timetabling, Supply Chain Management, Portfolio Optimization, Covering and Packing, Data Mining, Facility Location, Renewable Energy, Sustainability, Industry 4.0 / 5.0, …

All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process according to the high standards of RAIRO-Operations Research.

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system, following the guidelines available on the journal's website.

Be sure to select the article type AFROS2024-OR&AI.

The deadline for submission is January 30th, 2025.

Accepted papers will be published online individually, before print publication.
